Irish Superior Safety Systems based in Cork, were set an interesting challenge when asked to provide L1 fire detection coverage for St Marys Cathedral, Killarney. The Building, an impressive Gothic structure dating back to 1828 provided a unique set of installation challenges, which proved too much for a wired system. The use of the Hyfire hybrid system allowed the designers the opportunity to vary their approach to suit the building''s needs. Hard wired field devices cover areas where cabling is possible and where it will not impact on the sensitive architectural features, while the decorative areas of the church are covered by Hyfire Wireless Devices. To reduce visual impact in these sensitive areas further, the wireless detectors used were from the Decorline range of devices and have a wood effect finish making them blend into the wooden ceiling.
